Dynamic electricity prices
-
What are dynamic electricity tariffs?
Dynamic electricity tariffs adjust to the current market price. When there is a lot of wind and solar power, the price becomes very low. You pay the actual electricity price plus taxes and grid fees. Most providers charge a small basic fee, but there is no surcharge per kWh.
-
Do I need a PV system for dynamic tariffs?
You don't need a photovoltaic system. SmartDog optimizes the power consumption of your devices.
-
How much can you save by using dynamic electricity tariffs?
The savings potential compared to conventional tariffs is up to 40%.
-
Which devices can be controlled with the SmartDog using dynamic electricity prices?
The SmartDog can control wallboxes, battery storage, heat pumps, heating elements and inverters.
-
Can I also earn money with dynamic tariffs?
Yes - if there's a surplus of electricity in the network, prices can turn negative. This means you'll be paid for your usage during that period (though the network fee still applies).
-
What happens if I have a photovoltaic system, the electricity price is cheap at night, but a lot of sunshine is forecast for the next day?
You can configure your system so that grid charging with dynamic electricity prices only occurs if a certain yield forecast for the next day is not met.
SmartDog generates this forecast based on weather data and your solar panel data! Using your own solar power is generally even more cost-effective.
Parc-controller
-
Our network operator requires remote control technology - from whom can I obtain this?
Many network operators require the installation of remote control technology even for systems as small as 100 kW.
With SmartDog, you don't need an additional manufacturer for remote control technology or any additional hardware such as PLCs.
Whether the remote control technology uses the IEC 101/104 protocol, digital contacts, analog signals, or Modbus TCP, SmartDog always offers the right solution.
Selecting and configuring the remote control technology is extremely simple and intuitive.
EZA-controller
-
When do I need an EZA regulator?
For all systems connected to a transformer that can feed in more than 270kW (the sum of PV, CHP, storage counts), you need a certified EZA controller!
-
What components does an EZA controller require?
Of course, the EZA controller itself (essentially the higher-level control unit).
In most cases, a meter at the grid connection point.
For mixed systems, usually a PV generation meter.
Which of these components are required exactly is detailed in the E9 form, which you will receive from your grid operator.
-
Can I use any inverter?
No - the inverter must have a VDE 4110 certificate.
-
Can I use any counter?
No – VDE 4110 specifies very high accuracy classes for the measuring instruments used.
Only very high-quality instruments meet these accuracy classes.
At Ecodata, you receive a package that fulfills all requirements!
-
What does the certifier need regarding the EZA regulator?
This requires the component certificate for the EZA controller – we can provide that.
It also requires a commissioning report for the EZA controller with the configuration settings – we can provide that as well.
In many cases, proof of the controller's operation is required.
This can be more or less complex depending on the grid operator – we can provide this proof as well.
-
What information does Ecodata need from me?
We need the following information:
- Who is the grid operator?
- Is there power measurement at the grid connection point (GSP)?
- Is there power measurement for PV generation?
- Which inverter manufacturers are being used?
- Is a direct marketer to be integrated?
- Does the grid operator require remote control technology, and should this be supplied by Ecodata?
We need the grid operator's E9 questionnaire.
Feel free to use our interactive park controller inquiry form and receive a customized offer!

-
How long is the delivery time for an EZA controller control cabinet?
Currently, depending on the model, the delivery time is between two and five weeks.
However, delivery times may vary depending on capacity and supply chains.

-
From what size system do I need a parking controller?
You need a parking controller for systems 100 kW and above.
For systems 250 kW and above, you also need a remote connection to the grid operator's gateway.
-
What is the purpose of this parking regulator?
The park controller meets the requirements of the so-called TOR generator specifications.
These are legal requirements set by the state agency E-Control.
These specifications primarily serve to stabilize the grid.
Especially when there is a surplus of PV power in the grid, massive problems can arise if the grid operator does not intervene.
Lines could become overloaded, and the voltage in the grid could rise so high that equipment is damaged.
As a measure against grid overload, the grid operator can reduce the output of the PV system.
To prevent excessively high voltage in the grid, the inverters utilize Q(U) control.
With this control, the inverters increase the production of inductive reactive power as the voltage rises.
This allows the grid voltage to be reduced by up to 30%. When drawing power from the grid, the inverters can operate with customer-provided reactive power.
This helps the customer reduce their reactive power costs. The certified SmartDog park controller performs all these functions.
-
What does the parking controller need to function properly?
The park controller requires a meter at the grid connection point (GSP).
Systems according to NELEV (Solar Package 1)
-
I don't know how my large-scale installation is classified - VDE 4105 or 4110?
If a system is connected to low voltage, the VDE 4105 regulations always apply. For systems connected to a medium-voltage or high-voltage transformer, a distinction has been made since May 2024. Previously, a grid controller and certification were required for systems with a capacity of 135 kW or more.
Exceptions now exist under the NELEV (New Electricity Grid Expansion Ordinance). The new NELEV regulations (Solar Package 1) have been in effect since May 17, 2024, and are intended to simplify and accelerate the expansion of photovoltaics.
Systems that meet the following criteria fall under this new regulation and are classified as VDE 4105: Total generation capacity of the system under 500 kW (PV, storage, CHP, etc.) Feed-in limit of max. 270 kW (PV, E)
Our Park Controller Inquiry Wizard will ask you for specific information and provide you with a customized offer that meets the legal requirements.

-
Do I also need a parking controller for NELEV (Solar Package 1) systems?
BFor NELEV systems larger than 270 kW and smaller than 500 kW, which must be limited to 270 kW feed-in, a Pav,e controller is mandatory.
This limitation must be implemented by a Pav,e controller. The specifications of a Pav,e controller (the so-called envelope curve) must be adhered to and are extremely tight.
If the Pav,e controller does not operate extremely quickly (e.g., during changes in sunlight and cloud cover), this can lead to the system shutting down.
The certified Pav,e controller SmartDog meets this standard because it controls the inverters every 200 ms.
-
Can I use simple meters with a Nelev system with Pav,e control?
No – many network operators specify very high accuracy classes for the measuring devices used.
Bayernwerk and its partners, such as E.ON, e.dis, etc., require an accuracy of 0.2 for voltage and current, and 0.2 for current transformers.
Only very high-quality devices meet this accuracy class. At Ecodata, you receive a package that meets all these requirements!
-
Do I also need a parking controller for systems under 270kW?
Many manufacturers require remote control technology.
SmartDog has this integrated, so you don't need any additional hardware.
In addition, SmartDog supports all reactive and active power control requirements stipulated by various network operators.
With SmartDog, you meet all requirements and are on the safe side!
-
Can I use any inverter?
If a Pav,e regulation is mandatory, the inverters must also have a Pav,e certificate.
